DGTR Marks Eight Years of Ensuring Fair Trade, Announces Digital Platform for Trade Remedy Investigations

0

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, celebrated its eighth Foundation Day, reaffirming its commitment to protecting Indian industries from unfair trade practices and sudden import surges. Established in 2018 through the consolidation of the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties and the Directorate General of Safeguards, DGTR has been instrumental in conducting trade remedy investigations swiftly, often concluding within a year.

Since 1995, India has initiated over 1,200 trade remedy investigations, with recent interventions safeguarding domestic sectors such as solar energy and advanced materials. DGTR’s proactive measures include imposing safeguard duties and quantitative restrictions on products like palm oil and metallurgical coke, helping stabilize markets.

To enhance transparency and efficiency, the government announced the development of a digital platform enabling electronic submission of trade remedy investigation documents, expected to launch soon. Additionally, DGTR operates a dedicated Helpdesk to support micro, small, and medium enterprises in navigating technical and data-related challenges.

Through its Trade Defence Wing, DGTR has successfully contested foreign-imposed trade remedies, securing reduced duties or complete relief on Indian exports. The agency remains committed to fostering fair trade, supporting domestic industries, and proactively responding to evolving global commerce challenges.
