India has reaffirmed its dedication to the teachings of Lord Buddha at the United Nations Vesak Day 2025 celebrations, held at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City. Addressing a distinguished global gathering, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs & Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju conveyed greetings on behalf of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring India’s unwavering commitment to the principles of peace, human dignity, and sustainability.

The grand event, themed “Solidarity and Tolerance for Human Dignity; Buddhist Wisdom for World Peace and Sustainable Development,” was attended by several high-profile dignitaries, including President of Vietnam Luong Cuong and President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayaka. Eminent Buddhist leaders, including Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, and Chairman of the International Organizing Committee for UNDV, Most Venerable Prof. Dr. Pra Brahmapundit, also graced the occasion.

During his address, Rijiju highlighted the enduring relevance of Buddha’s teachings in contemporary global challenges and emphasized India’s historical role as the custodian of Buddhist wisdom. He reflected on India’s initiatives in promoting peace and fostering global dialogue through Buddhism.

A particularly significant aspect of the celebrations is the exhibition of Sacred Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, facilitated by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the Mahabodhi Society of India, the National Museum of India, and the International Buddhist Confederation. The relics are currently displayed at Thanh Tam Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City and will continue their journey to Tay Ninh, Hanoi, and Ha Nam until May 21, 2025.

Union Minister Rijiju, alongside President Luong Cuong and other distinguished guests, paid respects to the sacred relics. The event symbolized India’s enduring cultural and spiritual ties with Vietnam and its commitment to spreading Buddha’s message of unity and harmony worldwide.

The UN Vesak Day celebrations stand as a powerful reminder of Buddhism’s profound influence on humanity, transcending borders and inspiring dialogue for a more peaceful and sustainable world. India’s participation highlights its leadership in fostering Buddhist traditions and global solidarity.
