The Central Government has intensified efforts to combat cyber crimes targeting women and children by allocating Rs 132.93 million under the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC) Scheme. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to bolster the capacity of State and Union Territory law enforcement agencies through infrastructure development and specialized training.
The financial assistance supports the establishment of cyber forensic-cum-training laboratories, the hiring of junior cyber consultants, and the training of law enforcement personnel, public prosecutors, and judicial officers. These measures are designed to create a comprehensive and coordinated response to cyber threats.
Cyber forensic-cum-training laboratories have been commissioned in 33 States and Union Territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Tamil Nadu’s facility is partially functional, while Lakshadweep and Ladakh are yet to establish their laboratories.
The responsibility for crime prevention and prosecution lies primarily with the States and UTs, as ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution. The Central Government supplements these efforts through advisories and targeted financial support.
