Restaurant Review – South Bombay Bar (Formerly known as – The Spare Kitchen)

Address- Atria Mall, 4th Floor, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Worli, Mumbai 400018.

The South Bombay Bar is more like a lounge style place with good music great interiors a well stocked bar and amazing food.

The Ambience – Is low lighting with beautiful decor of south Bombay on the walls and central bar and music that’s just right not deafeningly loud nor so low that it dwells in the background.

Comfortable seating which is in three categories :-
Low sofa and low tables for the chatting groups.
Bar stools and bar tables for the drinkers.
Normal restaurant tables and chair seating for the people who love to eat.

Service – The staff is very courteous and polite and specially attentive to the diners, the food came in reasonable time.

Food – Ordered

Malabari Prawns – Which were small prawns cooked in a thick malabari spicy and pungent thick gravy put on top of small mini coin sized parathas simply gulp them down for a super tasting starter.

Butter Chicken Samosa – They were crisp Patti samosas filled with butter chicken inside and lip smackingly delicious starter.

Zaveri Bazaar Khichiya masala papad pizza style – It was a thick gujrati style khichiya fried papad with toppings of tomato sauce onions sev chilli powder masala and cheese it was perfect combo of Khichiya papad masala papad and margherita pizza Wonderful munch while you wait for your food to arrive.

Chicken and Corn Lasagne – The lasagne was flat sheets spaghetti dough and filled with cheese and chicken the cheese was yummy cheddar. The lasagne flavour was very nice but I found the sheets of spaghetti slightly uncooked and difficult to break or cut. I just had a morsel or two and asked the dish to be packed. In less than a minute the manager came over and asked me what was the problem and I was given a new replacement dish immediately without any charge I was thoroughly impressed by the attitude of the service staff and the management.

First Class Railway Mutton Curry – This came in a thali style. It was red semi thick mutton curry medium spicy and yummy in taste with boneless tender mutton chunks served with Rice, Onion salad, Mini Papad cones. A definite must try recommendation.

Butter Paratha – Served fresh of the tawa soft tasty and piping hot must try one of the finest rotis I’ve had in a long time.

Pinacota dessert – A small china grass white custard with pineapple yellow jelly on top served with pinacolada served in a tequila shot glass to top it with.

Billing amount Rs.3168/- with taxes I felt was justified value for what I got.

My Verdict – The South Bombay Bar is the place to go to for anyone any age any taste. It has lovely food, lovely drinks, Super friendly staff and management And friendly ambience and music.
