Mumbai: Every year the Indian Navy celebrates the Navy Day on the 04th of December to commemorate a brilliantly choreographed and courageous attack on the Karachi harbor during the Indo Pak war of 1971. Host of activities are organized as part of the Navy week and various themes have been used over the years and this year the aim is to promote the spirit of healthy living amongst the citizens. This year a Half Marathon has been planned with an emphasis on physical fitness and healthy living for a globally rising nation as part of the Navy Week. The aim of the event being promotion of a healthy lifestyle amongst the citizens and cement the symbiosis between the Armed Forces and the civil society.
The Navy Half Marathon will be conducted under three categories depicting three main classes of warships in navies world over namely, Air Craft Carrier run – Half Marathon (21.1 km), Run Destroyer Run – 10 km and Frigate Run – 5 km. The listed Events would be open to Indian Nationals of all age groups and all parts of the country (Civil as well as Armed Forces personnel) each of the events would be judged under three categories namely first three men and women in open category and veteran category (men above 45 years and women above 40 years). Attractive prizes will be awarded to the winners and additionally, all participants would be presented with a medallion and certificate signifying their participation in the event. The Marathon would be conducted at Bandra Kurla Complex, MMRDA Grounds on 13 Nov 16. More than winning, it is the participation that is the assured reward for this Half Marathon and commemorates the nation’s victory in the 1971 war by running shoulder to shoulder with the ‘Men and Women in whites’
