National Insurance Academy conducts seminar


Mumbai: National Insurance Academy had organized a seminar on the theme of “Agriculture Insurance: Risk mitigation for livelihood security and Sustainable Development” Some 200 participants from India and other Asian- African countries were expected to attend the event at which 30 eminent speakers including seven from abroad will participate.
Dr. Adel Mounir, Secretary General of FAIR inaugurated the seminar. He said, Agriculture Insurance will emerge as a major risk management tool to help farmers and to protect the food security chain. He elaborated the various developments taking place all around the globe in this area. P J Joseph, Member (Non-Life), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), gave the key note address in which explained the challenges that the countries like India encounter while implementing crop insurance themes because of the complexities in geography, climate, and agricultural practices involved. He urged insurance experts to work with the government to create new products of insurance that may eventually come handy to the individual farmers.
Sushobhan Sarker, Director, NIA, welcomed the gathering and Aswathanarayana, the Seminar Coordinator and Chair Professor (Non- Life), NIA proposed the vote of thanks.
