Mumbai: International Yoga Day observed on Western Railway with enthusiasm and fervour. The 7th International Yoga Day was celebrated all over Western Railway with zeal and enthusiasm on Monday, 21st June, 2021. This supreme form of mind-body discipline and gaiety was observed at Headquarters and all the six Divisions, Workshop Units, Railway Colonies & Railway Institutes etc. In Mumbai, a yoga session was organized at Rail Nikunj, Mumbai Central, where Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway was the Chief Guest and Smt Tanuja Kansal, President Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (WRWWO) was the Guest of Honour.
According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway alongwith Additional General Manager, Principal Head of Departments and Senior Railway officers performed various Yoga asanas, observing all Covid protocols. Other officers & staff joined the programme through a virtual link. Shri Kansal motivated the officers and staff with his inspirational address and set an example by performing the Yogasanas. In his address, he said that Yoga is our fitness Guru and it harmonizes the body and mind. He said that we should practice Yoga, which will provide calmness and is essential in our hectic lifestyle. He further added that Yoga should be practiced as a routine in our life. Speaking on the occasion, Smt Tanuja Kansal said that Yoga is the best thing one can adopt, especially during this pandemic to keep our mind calm and body healthy. During the programme, Shri Kansal virtually inaugurated a ‘Yoga & Meditation Centre’ at Ahmedabad and a ‘Tele-consultation facility’ in Yoga and Naturopathy at Bhavnagar for the benefit of the railway staff. To commemorate the Yoga Day, an informative e-booklet titled “Self Healing Through Yoga” was released by Shri Kansal. The booklet details on making Yoga a daily routine and thereby staying fit and leading a healthy life. It also enumerates guidelines for yoga practice and various Yoga postures or Asanas. A Power Point Presentation was also made by Dr Jancy Sekar, Yoga Consultant at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, on the History and Tradition of Yoga in India and its importance in our daily life. Common Yoga protocol was demonstrated by Dr Jancy and group. A competition for best Yoga posture by railway officers, staff and their families was held and winners for the same were declared during this programme. An inspiring audio spot on Yoga is being played over the Public Address system at the stations. Interesting and attractive artworks promoting Yoga were prepared and posted through WR social media handles.

Shri Thakur further added that a unique initiative was carried out by a group of yoga trainers from “Heal Station” who performed various yoga exercises in the local train of Western Railway from Borivali to Andheri for spreading awareness among passengers by following all covid protocol. The group had Yoga session for booking staff, reservation staff, TTC, RPF staff and for the officers and staff of Divisional Railway Managers office at Mumbai Central. A yoga session was also conducted on the platform for passengers of Mumbai – Delhi Rajdhani Express train. Yoga was also practiced by the Motormen and Guard of WR at Motormen Lobbies at Churchgate and at Mumbai Central Running Room. Yoga sessions were also organized at all the six divisions on Western Railway where officers and staff alongwith their family members participated in a good number. Banners on Yoga are displayed at various stations of WR to motivate people to practice Yoga. Standees promoting Yoga have also been put up at platforms and railway offices. Yoga Day messages in interesting artwork were played through digital displays at stations. Yoga programme was also organized at RPF training centre at Valsad and several stations. RPF personnels at Valsad Training centre performed intense yoga postures which was appreciated by all. The yoga session conducted by Ratlam & Rajkot Division was live streamed on Youtube. Western Railway appeals all its valued customers to inculcate the habit of practicing Yoga in their daily lives to boost their immunity, which is a major necessity, especially, in the current situation.
