AS GOOD AS IT GETS, A FILM WITH UNIQUE CHARACTERS THAT IS WORTH A WATCH

A film that is quirky from the start, “As Good as It Gets” shows original characters in unexpected lights. The writer of this film created memorable people, but is not quite willing to follow them down unconventional paths. The genres represented in the movie are a wide range from Comedy, Drama to Romance. Released in 1997, the film became an instant success for its witty lines and surpising storyline, its honest portrayal makes it a film worth watching for any movie goer.

This film has won a number of awards including an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen award, Writer’s Guild Award of America and many more.

The film tells the tale of a dysfunctional, acid-tongued romance novelist Melvin Udall played by veteran star Jack Nicholson, who suffers from an obsessive-compulsive disorder, takes pride in his ability to offend. At a nearby cafe, the only waitress willing to stand up to his sarcastic tirades is Carol Connelly played by Helen Hunt, a single mother struggling to raise her chronically asthmatic son. In Melvin’s West Village apartment building, talented contemporary artist Simon Nye played by Greg Kinnear lives across the hall from Melvin who also owns a dog.

As Good as it Gets is a thoroughly engaging, enthralling story: showcasing a troubled, insecure man who helps a troubled, insecure waitress with a ailing son and how the two form an unlikely relationship from being distant acquaintances to practical soul mates.
