India has taken a significant step toward strengthening regulatory oversight in traditional medicine with the launch of the Ayush Suraksha Portal. The initiative, unveiled in New Delhi, aims to safeguard consumers from misleading advertisements and adverse drug reactions (ADRs), ensuring transparency and accountability in the Ayush sector.
The platform integrates data from state licensing authorities, national pharmacovigilance centers, and regulatory stakeholders, enabling real-time monitoring and swift action against violations. Officials describe the portal as a “vigilant watchtower against misinformation,” empowering both consumers and professionals to report misleading claims and adverse effects directly.
Developed in line with a Supreme Court order from July 2024, the portal meets the directive to create a centralized dashboard for monitoring complaints related to traditional medicines. The Ministry of Ayush successfully launched the system ahead of the court’s June 2025 deadline.
The portal’s technical framework was developed with support from the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and aligns with the National Pharmacovigilance Program. It streamlines communication between multiple regulatory bodies, including the Ayush vertical under the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MoI&B), the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH), the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and state licensing authorities.
Ahead of the portal’s launch, a training session for nodal officers was held on April 9, 2025, under the chairmanship of Kousthubha Upadhyaya, Adviser (Ayu.) at the Ministry of Ayush.
Consumers, healthcare professionals, and regulators can now report misleading advertisements and ADRs through a seamless digital process. The Ministry of Ayush will maintain a centralized dashboard with real-time tracking, ensuring swift regulatory action and public visibility into reported cases.
Government officials emphasized that the portal represents a commitment to evidence-based practices and responsible governance while enhancing consumer confidence in India’s traditional medicine systems, including Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy.
