Mumbai: Global Citizen India concluded its first offline action day on 22nd October. 1000 Young Global Citizens came together at 100 schools across the 24 wards from Churchgate to Dahisar in Mumbai to gather data on infrastructure in these schools. The aim of this offline action in association with the Green Batti Project was to mobilize young Indians that are committed to take action and lead the movement to transform the face of public schools in Mumbai.
Through this data collection activity, the participants gathered ‘real-time’ information that will help address these infrastructural insufficiencies in a tangible manner. The data can be applied to make concentrated efforts towards improvement of the state of infrastructure within the schools. Governments and corporate partners can be mobilized post identifying these gaps, to invest CSR funds towards these improvements, allowing students to learn more efficiently and teachers to instruct more effectively.
Each school had around 10 people that surveyed different parts of the school. The survey covered five categories – general school infrastructure, IT and computer facilities, classrooms, sanitation and drinking water facilities. During this offline action, nearly 400 sanitation facilities were surveyed and close to 800 classrooms were measured for their infrastructure which plays a key role in the provision of quality education to all.
With the conclusion of this offline action, 500 free tickets will be distributed to those who participated. Those who are completing the online action journey on quality education for all, are eligible to enter the draw after accumulating 25 points.
