Central Railway in coordination with MRVC and World Bank organised a workshop on Integrated Ticketing System at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai on 1.8.2017. Shri D.K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway, Shri Prabhat Sahai, Chairman and Managing Director Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation, Shri Vishal Agrawal, Additional General Manager, Central Railway and other Principal Heads of Departments of Central Railway and MRVC participated in the workshop.
The workshop covered the topics of basic concept, integration of ticketing (smart card), access control system for railways, card/token system for single journey users, advantages of integrated ticketing system over present ticketing system from Railways as operator and commuter perceptive, challenges in implementation of integrated ticketing system on suburban system were discussed. How the integrated ticketing system governance and organisation models worldwide works and options for Mumbai were also discussed in the workshop followed by an open session.
As a pilot project, Railway Board have identified Mumbai suburban system for developing Open Loop Smart Card. MMRDA also intends to provide a seamless travel to commuters of Mumbai via smart card system across various public transport modes.
