U’khand landslide: Thousands stranded, restoration on

Char Dham Yatra pilgrims were left stranded on Friday after a landslide occurred near Vishnuprayag on Badrinath route in Uttarakhand.

The landslide blocked the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district after which BRO and police personnel are engaged in clearing the roads.

Although no casualties were reported, almost 15 thousand tourists are stranded. And about 500 vehicles were stuck as the incident damaged some of the highway area.

Witnesses said that huge rocks from Hathi Pahar have fallen over the road and it could take a long time to get the way cleared.

Efforts are also being made to provide all facilities to 1,000-1,500 pilgrims who are at Joshimath, Karnaprayag, Pipalkoti, Govindghat and Badrinath.
