Lucknow: Three persons were killed and nine injured on Friday when the Vasco Da Gama express derailed in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

One coach of the Patna-bound train derailed at the Manikpur station in Chitrakoot district at around 4.18 am.

The Home Department officials told IANS that rescue and relief operations were ongoing.

Additional Director General (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said the derailment occurred due to a fracture in the railway tracks.

A medical train has arrived from Allahabad.

Two of the victims were identified as Deepak Patel and his father Ram Swaroop from Betia, Bihar.
