Shri Mohd. Jamshed, Member Traffic, Railway Board reviewed the suburban railway performance of Central, Western Railways and MRVC at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai on 8.5.2017. Shri Ravindra Goyal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Central Railway made a presentation on suburban railways and brought out various areas for improvement. Shri Prabhat Sahai, CMD, MRVC made a presentation on progress of works and passenger profile. Shri Mukul Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Western Railway made a presentation at Churchgate.
Shri Jamshed, said that projects worth almost Rs.6000 crore have been sanctioned for Mumbai Suburban System which will make it one of the biggest suburban system in the world. He said that Central and Western Railways combined will increase almost 75 new services during current year. He added that Railways will have faster, safer and comfortable services. He also advised to form teams to study various issues related to suburban like, 1) how the headway can be reduced, 2) study the passenger profile and movement of passengers in various suburban zones, 3) expedite the suburban projects.
Member Traffic also told that railways is working in close coordination with State Government to sort out issues relating to land acquisition and rehabilitation to expedite various suburban projects.
