Muthoot Pappachan Foundation facilitates free cleft lip and Palate surgeries for children under SMILE PLEASE mission in Vadodara

Mumbai: The noble mission of changing the plight of socially challenged ‘special’ children with cleft lip disorders is gaining momentum. Muthoot Pappachan Foundation, the philanthropy division of the 130-year old corporate conglomerate Muthoot Pappachan Group, has recently achieved a major milestone by facilitating 1,000 free cleft lip surgeries for poor and underprivileged children under the SMILE PLEASE mission.

The first leg of this ‘Smile Please’ mission at Vadodara providing free and comprehensive cleft surgeries to patients from deserving backgrounds commenced on March 26, 2017. Isha Hospital, Vadodara is hosting the Mission and the surgeries will be performed at this hospital where medical experts from various parts of the country are doing the medical procedures. The partnership of Muthoot Pappachan Foundation and Mission Smile has so far accomplished 1058 surgeries across the country in last 2.5 years.

Under this Mission, the foundation is targeting to screen 100+ beneficiaries and shall be providing surgical care to 50+ beneficiaries. 4 Surgeons, 4 Anesthesiologists, 2 Pediatricians, Dentists, Speech therapist, Child Life Psychologists, expert nurses in post-surgical care are in the team led by Dr. Indranil Ghosh, Field Medical Director for the Mission.

With the help of Muthoot Fincorp branches the foundation has taken up the field outreach for a month supported by Mission Smile Coordinators and Oral & Maxillofacial Dept. of the Isha Hospital where they carried out larger awareness activities and patient recruitment throughout Gujarat which helped identifying patients from rural areas who were not been able to provide surgeries for their kids due to financial difficulties.

The surgery and treatment for the patient in the Mission is provided free of cost supported by Muthoot Pappachan Foundation and even the transportation, food and accommodation of patients and their guardians are also taken care.

The launch event was inaugurated by Mr. Thomas George Muthoot (Director, Muthoot Pappachan Group) in the presence of Mr. Pratik Kumar (Member, Board of Trustees, Mission Smile), Col. Shivaji Samaddar (COO, Mission Smile), Dr. Mayur Bhagat (Director, ISHA Hospital), Dr. Ajay Valia (Director, ISHA Hospital), Dr. Shilpi Shukla (Director, ISHA Hospital) and Mr. Vinod Kola (State Head, Muthoot Fincorp, Gujarat)
