The immensely popular Mahalaxmi Saras Exhibition that showcases homemade products, items, material, novel art forms and delicacies made by women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) inaugurated at the MMRDA ground, Bandra-Kurla Complex. The exihibition is from January 17 to January 29. Earlier it was announced to newspersons at Mantralaya, by Minister for Rural Development, Women and Child Development, Pankaja Munde. She also disclosed that for the first time, the Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) has conducted the registration of stalls by women’s SHGs online.
The exhibition, which will remain open between 10.00 am to 10.00 pm on all days, will have 511 stalls put up by women’s SHGs. Out of these, 311 stalls will be of women’s SHGs from the state, while the other 200 stalls will be for womens SHGs from other states. Last year the exhibition generated a revenue of Rs 8 crores for the women’s SHGs. She added that this year the government expects the exhibition to generate an income of Rs 10 crores. The aim of the exhibition is to empower rural women and make them self-reliant and confident.
Minister of State for Rural Development Dadaji Bhuse, MLA Trupti Sawant, Chief Executive Officer of the the Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) R. Vimla, Deputy Managing Director, NABARD Amlor Pawanathan, Chief Executive Officer of Thane Zilla Parishad, Vivek Bhimanwar, Palghar Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Milind Borikar and others were present on the occasion.
