A) 93 Years of EMU Service on CR
Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) suburban local has completed 93 years of its service on Central Railway. It was on 3.2.1925 the first EMU service with 4-cars was introduced from the then Bombay VT (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai) and Coorla (now Kurla) via harbour line, a first on Indian Railways. Central Railway, General Manager, Shri Devendra Kumar Sharma was very happy to announce that harbour line will shortly be allocated a couple of Bombardier rakes to mark the 94th year of EMU services on harbour line in an endeavour of Central Railway to provide best possible & comfortable journey to its commuters on three line viz. Main, Harbour and Transharbour.
In 1925 EMU services begun with 4-car service on harbour line which over the years has increased to 8-car, then 9-car. Now all the suburban services on Central Railway (main line, harbour line & transharbour line) are running with 12-car. Similarly, on Central Railway 150 daily suburban services were running in 1925. This has increased to 1732 services in 2018.
B) GM CR Inspects Mumbai Division
Shri D.K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway along with Principal Heads of Departments of Central Railway, Shri A.K. Jain, Commissioner of Railway Safety (Central Circle) and Shri S.K. Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division conducted annual inspection of Mumbai Division on 4.2.2018.
Shri D.K. Sharma inspected the PRS and Booking office, permanent way gang, mail loco pilot running room and inaugurated Building Energy Management System with LED lighting, VIP Room, combined lobby, refreshment room, garden at Igatpuri. He also met Shri Hemant Godse, Hon’ble MP and other public representatives and passenger associations and discussed rail related issues. Shri D.K. Sharma later inspected the catch siding and turn out , Hill gang, tunnel at the thul ghat between Igatpuri and Kasara, Rotanda bridge and level crossing gate between Atgaon and Asangaon. At Asangaon GM and DRM were given Traditional Maharashtrian felicitations by local residents and GM interacted with them.
GM also inaugurated 100% green energy powered station with windmill, solar panels, LED lights and energy efficient fans at Asangaon station & inspected the railway colony also. Later at Vasind, GM inaugurated meeting room, held discussion with Shri Kapil Patil, Hon’ble MP, Freight stake holders and passenger associations. The ribbon cutting and inauguration formalities of every new project was done by the senior most employee associated with the project as advised by GM.
He lauded the efforts of Mumbai Division for maintaining the section very well and sanctioned many individual and group awards for meritorious work done by staff and officers of Division.
