The first Loco Shed of Indian Railways at Kalyan completes 88 years of its service to Indian Railways. On this occasion a heritage loco garden placed with two heritage EF-1 & WCG-2 locomotives inside the shed was opened.
Kalyan Electric Loco Shed established on 28th November 1928 is the first loco Shed on Indian Railways to maintain DC locomotives working on 1500 Volts OHE System. As over the years, the OHE was converted into 25 KV AC, the shed started maintaining AC/DC and AC locomotives. Presently, the Loco Shed handles 201 locos including 64 WAG-9 locos having latest 3-phase technology. Kalyan Electric Loco Shed plays an important role in train operations of Mumbai Divison specially for banking operations in both North East & South East Ghats.
As part of this 88th Anniversary of the Shed, a two week long celebration is organized by the shed staff with various sports competitions, like cricket, kabbadi, badminton, chess, carom, rangoli and musical programme.
