If SC says triple talaq invalid, govt to get law

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail
The Centre on Monday told the Supreme Court that it may come out with legislation to regulate marriage and divorce among Muslims if the court holds triple talaq as invalid and unconstitutional.

Attorney General in his arguments had said the issues of polygamy and ‘nikah halala’ were also part of the order of a two-judge bench which had referred to the Constitutional bench the three issues, including the practice of triple talaq.

However, the five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar, said it will only be dealing with the issue of triple talaq for now and will take up the issues of polygamy and ‘nikah halala’ later.
