Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways today sanctioned the detailed budget estimate of electrification work of Pune-Miraj-Kolhapur (326 km) at a cost of Rs.513.07 crore. The work has been entrusted to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for execution.
The section falls in Pune division of Central Railway and passes through Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts of Maharashtra. Electrification of this section will provide shorter and seamless movement on electric traction between Western (Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Pune etc.) with Southern (Bengaluru, Chennai) part of the country via Pune-Miraj-Londa-Hospet-Guntakal & Pune-Miraj-Londa-Hubballi-Chikjajur-Bengaluru as these sections are electrified or under electrification.
