Coal scam: CBI files fresh chargesheet against JSPL Zee Media Bureau

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a fresh chargesheet against Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) in the coal scam.

JSPL, led by former Congress MP Naveen Jindal, has been booked under IPC sections 120B, 420 and 409.

This is the 36th FIR so far in the coal blocks allocation scam. JSPL is amongst several companies being probed by the CBI in what is known as the Coalgate. The companies are facing corruption charges in the allotment of coal blocks.

JSPL is alleged to have routed Rs 2.25 crore of kickbacks through its subsidiary firms to a company owned by Dasari Narayana Rao, former minister of state for coal. The case pertains to an alleged conspiracy in securing a coal block in Jharkhand.

In June last year, CBI had carried out raids and registered an FIR against Jindal and Rao for cheating, criminal conspiracy and misconduct in securing the Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Jharkhand in 2008. Five private companies were also named in the FIR.

The CBI had questioned Jindal in September 2013.

The Supreme Court had recently cancelled the allocation of 214 of the 218 coal blocks allotted since 1993.
