Mahalaxmi Saras 2017 – the 14th edition of annual exhibition-cum-sale of rural handicrafts, handloom and other items produced by rural artisans and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) – has taken the cashless drive to the doorstep of its SHGs.
During this exhibition, stalls have been provided with Point-of-Sale (POS) Terminals so as to facilitate card-based transactions and thereby eliminate the need for carrying cash for purchases.
Bank of Baroda earned the distinction of facilitating the first card-based transaction during this exhibition when Smt. Pankaja Munde, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development, Women & Child Welfare purchased a handicraft through Bank of Baroda POS terminal and began a new chapter in the payment history of Mahalaxmi Saras. Bank’s General Manager and Zonal Head, Mumbai Zone Shri Navtej Singh was also present during this occasion. Bank of Baroda has provided POS terminals to 45 SHGs of Konkan Division of Maharashtra participating in this Exhibition.
Organized by Govt. of India and Govt. of Maharashtra, Mahalaxmi Saras 2017 was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Vidyasagar Rao on 11th January 2017 at Mumbai in the presence of Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development, Women & Child Welfare, Smt.
