All India Letter Writing Campaign “Dhai Akhar” on “Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) you inspire me…”

Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Communications, Shri Manoj Sinha has launched All India Letter Writing Campaign “Dhai Akhar”on on 24th June, 2017. The campaign is aimed to revive the habit of letter writing.

The theme of the letter writing campaign is “Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) you inspire me…” The letter may be written in English/Hindi/Local language to Bapu or Mahatma Gandhi. The letter may be written on plain A4 size paper in not more than 1000 words and may be posted using embossed envelope issued by the Department of Posts. The Inland Letter Card may also be used for writing the letter in not more than 500 words. The letter may be addressed to Chief Postmaster General (Philately), Maharashtra Circle, Mumbai – 400001 and superscribed “Dhai Akhar”. The letter may be posted in the letter boxes or posted at Branch Post Offices in rural areas and in Head Post Offices, Sub Post offices or Mukhya Dak Ghar, where special letter boxes have also been erected.

The competition is open to all and includes all age groups. There are two age groups i.e below and above 18 years and under each age group, the participants will be categorised as users of Inland Letter Cards and Envelopes. The participant needs to give a self declaration about his age on the letter.

The best three entries of each of the above 4 categories would be shortlisted at Maharashtra Circle level and prizes will be awarded for Rs.25,000/-, Rs.10,000/- and Rs.5,000/-. The entries selected at Circle level will be sent to Postal Directorate, New Delhi for All India level prizes. 3 best letters received under each category will be selected from the entries received from all over India. The prize winners will be felicitated at Sabarmati Ashram on 02.10.2017, where the letters will also be exhibited. The prizes to be awarded in the category are Rs.50,000/-, Rs.25,000 & Rs.10,000/-.

The prize winning letters will also be published in important newspapers.
